The estimated effects of long COVID here in the US are staggering: 18-20 million people affected, 3-4 million applying for permanent disability, $175-200 billion dollars of lost wages annually. With no effective conventional medicine treatment to date, the sheer magnitude of the people affected and unable to work will have deep reaching effects on individuals, communities and medical systems around the country.
There are over 200 symptoms associated with long COVID including fatigue, cognitive and memory issues, dizziness, shortness of breath, palpitations, anxiety, depression, headache, generalized pain, loss of taste and smell and a wide range of gastrointestinal symptoms. Long COVID can affect all organs and all body systems.
And the good news is that Chinese medicine is very capable of treating the myriad of symptoms associated with the condition. This in depth class will present clear methodology on how to understand and treat the many symptoms of long COVID using acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutrition.
The class will be citing the article Dr. Brendan Kelly co-authored with two medical doctors from Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center that was published in April 2025 in the Journal of Integrative Medicine. Titled “Long COVID Response to Classical Chinese Medicine” it includes detailed case studies from his clinical experience successfully treating patients with a wide variety of long COVID symptoms as well as larger societal and economic issues of the condition.
